Tisza riverbank, Stefánia, Huszár Mátyás Embankment (14 minutes/1100 m)
Anyone spending a few days in Szeged will surely walk down to the Tisza riverbank to admire the river and the cityscape stretching along its two banks. The renovation of the embankment was completed in 2015, resulting in Hungary’s longest mobile floodwall, which protects the city from floods up to a water level of 11 meters. Although this was a flood protection investment, it holds significant urban and tourist importance, as there’s hardly a visitor to Szeged who doesn’t make their way down to the Tisza riverbank.
Stefánia has recently undergone a complete renewal, enriched with new plants, walking paths, a playground, single benches, and swing benches. A local history trail has been created to showcase the architectural and archaeological remnants of the city’s history.
